Monthly Report: June 2016

I post an update every month on the taxable dividend income I receive in my brokerage accounts, the non-taxable dividends I receive from my Roth IRA accounts, the market value of my taxable brokerage accounts, the market value of my Roth IRA accounts, the market value of my 401(k) account, and my savings rate.

Below is the monthly report as of June 30, 2016:

    • Total taxable dividend income of $576.68 increased 12.23% from June of last year.
New stocks purchased this year are AXP and VFC.  Existing positions I added fresh capital to this year are DNKN, TGT, and YUM.  All other dividend increases are from dividends reinvested and dividend raises from the companies.  I'm very happy with the total year over year dividend increase.

Non-Taxable Dividends (Total: $355.05)
  • Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM) - $10.89
  • Chevron Corporation (CVX) - $13.15
  • Emerson Electric Co. (EMR) - $10.65

    • Total non-taxable dividend income of $355.05 increased 18.01% from June of last year.
The increase in distributions for this month compared to last June is pretty good.

Market Values (Total: $330,517.34)
  • Brokerage Accounts - $84,541.22 (Increased 1.58% from prior month)
  • Roth IRA - $64,165.81 (Increased 5.61% from prior month)
  • 401(k) - $181,810.31 (Increased 1.20% from prior month)
    • Total market value increased 2.13% from prior month.
I'm not too concerned with the market value of my taxable brokerage accounts since the investment strategy with that is solely to generate a growing stream of dividend income.  As long as the dividends keep coming and are increasing, I'm not too worried.  Nevertheless, it's still interesting to see how it is performing.

Savings Rate
  • 50.67%
Savings rate was excellent for this month!  50% or more in savings rate is definitely a big achievement for me.  In fact, it's these kinds of savings rates that helped me quickly pay off my mortgage.

How did you do this month?

  1. That's a serious total for passive income between your accounts. Nice long list of companies paying you too. Always good to see a lot of similar names in common between our portfolios. Keep up the good work!

    1. Hi DivHut,

My dividend income for March, June, September, and December months are usually much higher than the other months. I've been meaning to invest in stocks that pay dividends in the other months, but at the end of the day, as long as I average out the months over a year, that's essentially my monthly dividend income. I guess most of the stocks I end up investing in just happen to pay out dividends during those months.

    1. Hi Investment Hunting,

Thanks! I'm trying to keep my savings rate high so I can have more capital to deploy, but right now I'm trying to quickly rebuild my emergency cash fund. Hopefully by the end of this month or next, I'll have rebuilt my emergency fund and can begin buying stocks.
